Art & Activism with Girasol O’Neill (AKA Mr.Sol), Friday July 24 | 6:30pm | Fellowship Hall
Join UUCA and WOFA for an evening of art making and talking story. Together we will paint, chat and build community. Gordon (Mr. Sol) is a surrealist artist, art teacher, and human rights activist based in the DC Metro area. A 2022 He George Mason University graduate (BFA) — O’Neill specializes in portraiture, murals, and multimedia community projects. His artworks are steeped in social and political themes, stemming from his experience of growing up as an undocumented immigrant and closeted LGBT+ identities.

Voter Registration Training | Sunday July 26 | 4-5:30 pm | Activity Room
Join the League of Women Voters of Arlington and Alexandria City for their annual in person voter registration training right here at UUCA. Virginia requires annual training to register voters, with the reset July 1. This is a great opportunity to learn about how to register voters and to be trained by Arlington Registrar Gretchen Reinemeyer. You do not need to be a League member to attend or to volunteer with the League to register voters. This program is open to the public, so invite friends and neighbors. UU The Vote Postcarding Is Back!
UU the Vote Postcarding returns for the upcoming elections! Put your UU values into action! In partnership with The Center for Common Good, we’re writing postcards for the national midterm elections to encourage voter registration and turnout. Stop by the UU the Vote table after services any Sunday through mid-October to pick up a packet—everything you need is included. Can’t make it to services? Saving the Earth: Bite by Bite invites you to a special showing of the acclaimed documentary Forks Over Knives on Sunday, August 2, immediately following the worship service (approximately 11:30 a.m.). Come explore how our food choices can benefit our health and the planet while enjoying plant-based pizza and dairy-free ice cream. Whether you’re simply curious or already embracing more plant-based meals, everyone is welcome!
Poetry Reading by Bill Reilly: “Start with a Strong Emotion…” | August 16th | 11:45am | The Reeb Center
Our UUCA members have so many shared and hidden talents! Bill Reilly began writing poetry during college and took it upon again during Covid, with the encouragement of an instructor at Encore Learning. Some of you may recall that poetry, as defined by Wordsworth, “takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.” That’s how Bill describes his own creative process: start with a strong emotion and see where it takes you. Join us. Bill will offer We’ll a short reading, then a Q&A session. Bring your curiosity and questions. Be ready to ask about the poems or writing in general. All are welcome!

Help those experiencing homelessness
In response to an outpouring of volunteer interest in the Bagged Meals program, UUCA now has FOUR monthly opportunities for congregants of all ages (kids, adults, families, covenant groups, you name it!) to help individuals experiencing homelessness in our community:
1) Assemble bagged meals used by PathForward’s community outreach teams to meet the needs of their clients. Volunteer slots are available to purchase supplies, make sandwiches, pack the meals, and deliver them to the PathForward Homeless Services Center.
2) Serve hot meals to clients at the Homeless Services Center.

UUCA Death Cafe
Death Cafes are group-led discussion about the end of our lives. They are not grief support groups or counseling session, instead they help people around the world confront their mortality with acceptance, compassion, and curiosity. This new group is open to UUCA adult congregants, and you are welcome to bring a friend. Space is limited to 20 people. Please bring a sweet or savory treat to share. Email Kristen P.
