  • Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (VADP)
    Citizens' organization dedicated to educating the public about alternatives to the death penalty. Also seeks to provide outreach to murder victims' families.

    The Northern Virginia chapter of VADP meets on the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at UUCA.

  • ACLU's Death Penalty Pages
    Includes their Execution Watch, "a counter of the number of U.S. executions since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976."
  • Center on Wrongful Convictions, at Northwestern University School of Law
    Center staff pioneered the investigation and litigation of wrongful convictions - including the cases of nine innocent men sentenced to death in Illinois. These efforts were a driving force behind both Governor George H. Ryan's decision to suspend executions in Illinois and the current nationwide movement to reform the criminal justice system.
  • Citizens United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (CUADP)
    CUADP works to end the death penalty in the United States through public education and grassroots activism. This web site offers news, press releases, a discussion of viable alternatives to the death penalty, a list of events nation wide, suggested readings, and more.
  • Constitution Project's Death Penalty Initiative
    A bipartisan death penalty initiative formed to begin "the critically important task of examining our country's present course, and of recommending ways to ensure that fundamental fairness is guaranteed for all."
  • Death Penalty Information Center
    Non-profit organization serving the media and the public with analysis and information on issues concerning capital punishment. Prepares in-depth reports, issues press releases, conducts briefings for journalists, and serves as a resource to those working on this issue
  • Moratorium Campaign
    Calls for an immediate moratorium on executions so that serious questions about the application of the death penalty can be reviewed.
  • Murder Victims' Families for Reconciliation, Inc.
    MVFR is a non-religious organization that includes people of a wide variety of faiths and belief systems. It is a national organization of family members of both homicide and state killings who oppose the death penalty in all cases.
  • National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (NCADP)
    Coalition of organizations and individuals committed to the abolition of capital punishment. Provides information, advocates for public policy, and mobilizes and supports individuals and institutions that share the unconditional rejection of capital punishment.
  • National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
    NACDL's Death Penalty Committee is actively involved in abolition and moratorium efforts around the country and the world. The committee is involved in assisting members in achieving due process and justice for their clients through a number of projects.
