Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA

A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948

I'm excited to finally share my plans with the entire UUCA community! I am scheduled for weight loss surgery on Jan 21 at Fair Oaks Hospital. I have been on this journey for many months now as I have consulted many, many medical professionals, done much research, and attended many support group meetings. I am now in the final stages of pre-surgery testing.

This is a drastic solution to what I have come to realize is a drastic, drastic problem. The coming months will likely not be easy, but I am confident that this is the right course of action for me.

My parents are coming to be with me and stay through the first week or more of recovery. I plan to be away from church for 2-3 weeks.

I will keep you updated on my progress.

Thanks for your support!

Sarah

I'm doing so much better. Thanks to everyone for the cards, emails, and phone calls.

I have lost 12 pounds in two weeks. My lunch today was 5 pieces of shrimp. Dinner last night was one scrambled egg. It's absolutely unbelievable, as those of you who have shared a meal with me could attest to.

I stopped in at the church office today to say hello. I plan to be back on half-days starting Monday (or whenever I can get there!) I expect to be back at church services on Valentine's Day.

Hi Sarah. Today is the day and you most likely won't be online -- at least I hope not! But I join the chorus of support here that is thinking about you and holding you in our hearts. It's cloudless and sunny, and a little nippy outside today. The chill will keep everyone on their toes. It's a good day for surgery. Holding you in my heart now and during recovery, June

Sarah we wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery. A woman in my office had lap band surgery just before Thanksgiving and is really making a lot of progress. She is very happy she did it. I hope you will be happy with your results.
We'll be thinking of you. Gerda

Congratulations on your decision, Sarah. I'm sure you are a bit apprehensive as the day approaches, but know that many of us will be holding you in our hearts. I have two friends who have done this with wonderful results. You will make three! Donna
