Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA
A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948
I received a request to post part of the Trustee welcome I offered during the second service on February 20th.
Below is part of the greeting titled "The Joy of Creative Tension." I took out the portion of the greeting that tells visitors about our welcome packets and the info session following the service.
The report by the UUA Commission on Appraisal and titled "Belonging: The Meaning of Membership," states:
“Our faith calls us to live in the creative tension between what we have understood and what we are coming to understand. The living tradition of our Unitarian Universalist faith does not see religious truth as a static condition but rather as one of continuous revelation.”
One of my joys of being in this community is being nurtured and thriving in the space of this type of creative tension. My participation in this community includes social witness activities, performances, social events, fellowship with others. It also includes the thought-provoking and emotional experiences that allow me to explore my own and others' individual and collective identities and beliefs. Through these activities, I have the opportunity to understand myself and others. I am extending my own spiritual path, growing my own religious truth and living into a real-world manifestation of my UU principles. For me the journey of membership at UUCA is as the report describes the living tradition of Unitarian Universalism, “one of continuous revelation.”
Thank you all for coming together in worship. We are glad to have you here and honorede to be a part of your spiritual journey.
