Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA

A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948

I mourn the loss of the trees at UUCA.

The parking lot is barren, naked  and exposed with the changes happening out there.

I know this change was part of the plans the congregation made.

I know there is a reason for this change.

It still jars you into reality when you actually see it.

It reminds me of all of the trees in the world that cannot be replaced with the march of progress.

The world will now see the changes being brought about at UUCA.

What will they think?

Will they notice?

Will it bring new opportunities for friendship and community?

I think so…I hope so…

I still miss the trees and their passing exposed as we are to Rt. 50 and buzz of the traffic now.

I pause to hold this change in my hands and reflect upon it.

Having been away, I've not seen the loss of trees at UUCA. My recollection is that the architect told us in one briefing that the trees would be saved!  Will the world see the loss?  Not sure, but the birds and even smaller critters certainly will.
