Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA
A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948
All are welcome to attend tonight’s Buddhist meditation class (June 11, 7:30 p.m.) when special guest speaker Mirka Knaster will share humorous, inspiring, and poignant stories that honor the Bengali meditation master, Munindra, the grandfather of the vipassana/mindfulness movement in the West and who taught many of today’s most prominent Western Dharma teachers. An independent scholar and freelance writer/editor, Mirka holds a Ph.D. in Asian and Comparative Studies and is author of Living This Life Fully: Stories and Teachings of Munindra (Shambhala). Mirka is a practitioner of the Theravada tradition since her first retreat in India in 1981. Her writings on loving-kindness meditation, the body and spirituality, interreligious dialogue, and wise speech as spiritual practice appear in various magazines, anthologies, and encyclopedias, and at www.beliefnet.com. No set fee for the class, donations are accepted.
