"Reading the Ancient Wisdoms Again for the First Time"
Be among the first to try a hybrid course on UUCA's new website. If you like it, we'll do more learning experiences this way! It begins with an in-person introduction at UUCA (Feb 28 7:30pm), followed up with weekly meetings in cyberspace, and wrapping up with an in-person closing session at the church. You will read either all or parts of a key ancient texts and come together as a group to discuss them via the new UUCA website. Expectations are that each participant will contribute to discussion threads and access resources available on-line at your convenience weekly. Included are The Vedas (12 or fewer), The Dhamapada and Sutta Nipata (selections), The Quran (selections) and selected Sufi poems, the Gospels (Mark, Thomas, Matthew, Luke, and John), selections from the Tanakh and Rabbinical teachings, and the I Ching. These ancient writings form the basis of some of the world’s most influential religions, and we will try to take an unbiased, historical review of what they say and how they have affected culture and history. We will also ask the question: Are and how might these texts be pertinent to our contemporary lives? This course is oriented toward participant conversation and reflection. All will be asked to share their own perspectives.
Intro Session: Sun., Feb. 28, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Registration is required - available on-line through this web site (under Religious Education, for Adults). No fee.
We need at least eight participants to make this a "go".
Facilitator: Cheryl Gibbs Binkley, a former UU Director of Religious Education, author of several religious education curricula, and graduate of One Spirit Interfaith Seminary.
