A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948
Last week my sister-in-law, Lee Lewis McGee, a creative artist and loving person, died of cancer. Some of
you may have read my blog in November or heard my sabbatical sermon
when I told the story of spending Thanksgiving in Gainesville,
Florida with my extended family. Lee was very sick then, but she
decided that she wanted to have a real wedding before she died –
she and my brother Pat had lived together for over twenty years -- so in twenty-four hours we organized what turned into a touching
ceremony beside a lake, surrounded by family, with the sun going
down, and sand-hill cranes flying over. That's the way I will remember
Lee: simply beautiful with a radiant smile and a joyful spirit. She
will always be a part of all who knew her.
