Learn about Community Organizing with Love this Thursday,Sept 16

The tough-love golden rule of organizing is to "Never do for others what they can do for themselves." The skill of organizing is in finding and developing leaders who will motivate disadvantaged people to take action for themselves. Organizing is relational work. People respond to the call of those they they trust, leaders with whom they have a public relationship. These truths apply to both the organization of civic communities and of faith congregations. That's right. We can use the tools of community organizing to both bolster UUCA leadership within VOICE and to renew our congregational spirit from within.

We have a made-for UUCA training opportunity coming up this Thursday, September 16. Martin Trimble, the lead organizer for VOICE, a 30-year veteran organizer, and an engaging personality, will teach us these tools from 7:15 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Choose one of two tracks: Track 1: Introductory--Learn the history and the organizing philosophy and practice of the Industrial Areas Foundation, whose organizers support VOICE. Track 2: Core team training--Learn about the leadership roles and practice individual, relational meetings to build a team that can strengthen UUCA and help engage its members in public action.
