Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA

A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948

Our friend Joan has moved to Pittsburgh -- sooner rather than later. She was headed there or Philadelphia, but at a slower pace than what has happened. She has had a sudden and recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Fortunately she has daughters keeping a large group of people in the loop about the rapidly enfolding events and they have now set up a web site for Joan and her circle of friends -- click on the words in blue and you will travel there.

When she feels up to it, she can rejoin us here on the UUCA web site -- we can hold her in our hearts.

Update note for our extended Church community. Joan Holm has completed chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Her web site blog has been a wonderful way to follow Joan in her new social whirl in Pittsburgh while she tends to treatment. News on her treatment has been candid and straightforward. Her self management through all of these changes is inspirational and her sharing of her life is joyous. Her web site again is at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joanholm target="_blank">http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joanholm

Joan Holm's blog has been more than a way to keep in touch with a friend who is off to live in Pittsburgh and battle pancreatic cancer. She has become an inspiration to me and several people I have talked with lately -- leading us through the minefields of our own distresses by her example to live life richly and enthusiastically even while the bad stuff goes on too. If you are reading this today, Feb 4th, please keep her in your heart while she goes for Chemo #2 at Noon.

Joan Holm is blogging her updates and is in the full swing of family and music while learning new ways to take care of her medical issues - and treating them as an adventure. Click on the Blog "web site" hyperlink and you will be with her.

It is wonderful to see how many people are visiting with Joan at this time, thanks to computer-assisted communications. I especially appreciate that Joan can choose when to visit, and no one has to be concerned about tiring her out or interrupting or adding to any confusion during this upheaval.
