"Ï've Got Mine"--Is That What Matters?

I'm taking the Bill Fogarty challenge to add something to the website this week.
Lord knows there are enough challenges around, but the Massachusetts election reveals a dumb-founding flabber-gasting spiritual problem that's been building for--oh, say--mere millennia.
Apparently Rep. Scott Brown pursued his victory by telling voters that THEY already have near-universal health care insurance so why should they help pay for the same benefit nationally:
"Ï've got mine, why should I help pay for yours?"
The viciousness of that sentiment takes my breath away.
This issue is the core of all spiritual challenges, I think. But it's worse when so manyof us are losing something economically. People get more bitter over LOSSES than over the mere lack of GAINS.
Yet this whole country is going to have to live more simply if we want to save the environment for future generations.
How can we help one another share the pain? Probably by remembering we will share the benefits, the blessings, including the good feelings of community: Documented, measurable, significant benefits to our immune systems and self-esteem at the very least. Let's do it.

I agree wholeheartedly. We have an extremism of selfishness in our country.
