A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948
I was just in the sanctuary in the dark of a rainy night, with exterior lights through the clerestory windows giving the empty room its luminescence. I could hear the singing of "This Little Light of Mine" from this past Sunday. I could see Rev. Michael in the pulpit, Rev. Dr. Linda sharing a story ... and I could feel the love. The space has been made holy by all the memories and tears and dreams shared. The music offered to comfort and inspire. The words spoken to uplift and to challenge. The candles lit, the hugs exchanged ... all, I believe, in the name of love.
I don't know if it will ever be performed at UUCA or not, but this song by R. Kelly is one that moves me. It's got a sweetness and a groove to it that reminds me of my past, but leaves me very present to the blessings of the present moment. I want to tweak the words at some point to have it work for a Sunday morning format, but the central message is clear: "If they ask you why we did it, we did if for love."
That just might be my epitaph.
Looking forward to connecting with everyone on the theme of love again this Sunday morning at UUCA, 9:15 and 11:15!
