Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA

A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948

My heart has been broken by the photos and stories from Haiti. It's hard to believe there can be so much suffering in one place and by people who have suffered so much before the earthquake.
But I'm inspired by the goodness and generosity of so many people from around the world who are opening their hearts and their checkbooks – or credit cards – to help. Terry and I have decided to donate to the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee as well as Doctors Without Borders, both organizations we support on an ongoing basis.
I learned when I was in India following the tsunami that the poorest of the poor seldom receive adequate aid following a disaster, and I was impressed with how the UUSC directed help to those in who needed it the most, especially those who were politically and economically oppressed. The UUSC has the same approach this time as well.
Doctors Without Borders, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their humanitarian work, is also dedicated to helping all people who need medical aid no matter their nationality, race, religion, or economic status. And they have been extremely effective in doing so.
I hope you will give generously to the charity of your choice and that you will also keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers.
