Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA

A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948

Everyone is welcome to come to a simple supper at church Friday even if you don't attend the District-wide Racial Justice Conference on Saturday. There will be a small free will donation for the meal Sue Browning will have us cook Friday afternoon. (More cooks also welcome.)

Starting the conference on Friday is new, modeled on what the district south of us (old Thom. Jeff. Dist.) does at their long established Racial Justice Conference. The UUA Board member from the Joseph Priestley District, a JPD Board rep., the District Exec. and a Youth leader will each report briefly about the state of racial justice from their perspective, followed by the Rev. John Crestwell on the success of the multi-racial ministry at the UU Church of Annapolis, closing with music till 9 PM - for the adults. The Youth, including a group of DREAMers from Arlington, will continue overnight, with programming into the wee hours. The District Journey Towards Wholeness team is trying to learn how to be multi-generational - which is harder than we realized. Andrew Mertz, Director of Youth and Young Adults in the JPD, and the District Youth Steering Committee, will plan next year's conference with the JTW team from the ground up, so we will be even more integrated then. This year Andrew, DYSC, Sana Saeed, Rev. Carlton, Jacomina deRegt, Joy Cobb and Maggie Clayton began Youth planning a little later in the game, but they've jumped in with tremendous energy, so we're really excited to see how the youth track of the conference goes, and how their energy changes the way this conference has been since it began 6 years ago.
