Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA

A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948

Susan and I wish that everyone might have the comfort of food, shelter and health, and the freedom to enjoy peace, love, and laughter this Holiday Season.

We are grateful to report happy updates to our last year's Holiday Greeting blog posted further below on this page.

We spent Christmas with my son Neil, his wife Andrea, her brother Jordan, and our two granddaughters in Halifax, Nova Scotia, together with my daughter Jennifer and their mother Ev from Toronto. Granddaughter Alexis (3 years in April) is beautiful, charming, intelligent and entertaining. Granddaughter Myah (1 year in February) is beautiful, charming, intelligent and inquisitive. Neil, our generous host and accomplished chef, blessed us as always with his culinary delights. Alexis expressed our festive gratitude best when she shouted out
on Christmas morning: "Good job, Santa."

Regretfully, we see a little less of our granddaughters Madison and Angelina since they moved twenty miles away from Arlington to Reston, Virginia, in November. Madison (beautiful, charming, intelligent and socially connected) is in grade 5; Angelina "Lina Bina" (beautiful, charming, intelligent and precocious) is in pre-school.

We celebrated granddaughter Sophia's first birthday in Winterville, NC, in October with Susan's son Jordan and wife Maria. Would you believe it? Sophia is beautiful, charming, intelligent and sweetness personified!

Susan has been building up her counseling practice at home, reducing her time on the road. She now drives the one hundred mile round trip to Calvert County only two times per week, down from three. I am grateful to be able to continue teaching math and physics to medically home-bound students in Washington, DC. My students, many suffering debilitating disease, deserve all the help and compassion they can get. Also, I continue to tutor immigrant students one night a week.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Arlington continues to be the center of our spiritual and social lives. UUCA calls us to step back from the rush of daily life, to listen to spiritually uplifting music, prophetic words, and the holy voice within, and to work together for fairness, justice and compassion. This New Year, we renew our commitments of love to all.

Alexis said it all.
Although not evident in the picture, Madison is now taller than her grandmother.

There's no doubt... Sophia is precious!
