A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948
We send our deepest condolences to Anne Clarke, wife to Robert Clarke, a former minister here at UUCA (1967-1977), who died on January 18 in Wisconsin. Below is Rev. Clarke's obituary:
Robert C. Clarke
(June 11, 1928 - January 18, 2013)
Friday, January 18, 2013, Robert (Bob) Clarke passed on. He was born in Seattle on June 11, 1928. He grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, and graduated from New Trier High School. In 1951, he married Anne Torrison of Kenilworth, Illinois.
After serving in the Army, Bob entered the insurance business, until 1958, when he felt the call to the ministry. He returned to school, earning his college degree at Millikin University and his theology degree at McCormick Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the Unitarian Universalist ministry in 1964.
He served churches in New Hampshire, Virginia, and Texas, and retired as minister emeritus from the First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1992, he and Anne moved to Sister Bay, where they had summered for many years. In 1996, he helped found the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County.
He leaves a loving wife of 62 years, a daughter, Betsy, son, Jim, grandchildren Marie Clarke-Doane (Joe Policastro) and Justin Clarke-Doane, and a great-granddaughter, Ava Policastro. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ethel and Clarence, a sister, Helen, and brothers Jim and Jack.
The family is most appreciative of the loving care he received from the staffs of Scandia Village Care Center and Unity Hospice.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
