Ernest Lent and Joan Holm were two very dear friends. But I find myself hearing in my head the song, "Keep Your Lamps Burning." Ernest and Joan's lamps lighted the way for so many and right up to the end. I will carry them with me for all the days to come. Ernest's wit, charm, twinkle, persistence, perseverance made him a sight, a beautiful sight to behold. He spoke about love a lot in this last year. In fact, the first five words I heard him speak were "It all comes down to love.

Joan Holm, another significant influence on me in the short, but very intense time we knew one another. Her drive, energy, hearty laugh, sparkle, quirks, life beliefs and experiences were utterly genuine. Joan's compassion for others and her commitment to many, many social justices issues, especially multi-culturalism were a blessing.

I miss Ernest and Joan very much. Both of them expected the life, glorious life, would go on after them and that we all should live it to the fullest.

A Memorial Service for Lindsey Harmon will take place at Goodwin House West next Wednesday, June 16, at 2 pm.
