Culpepper Garden Event at Signature Theatre, Nov. 14

One of the things I highlighted at recent the Arlington Committee of 100 panel discussion on social justice was UUCA's terrific work establishing Culpepper Garden, a residence for hundreds of senior Arlingtonians since the 1970s. Over the past year, I have often heard members ask the question, "What is our next Culpepper Garden?"  -- that is, "What is our next large-scale, congregation-wide transformational project?" It's actually the case that UUCA's involvement with Culpepper Garden is not over! We have consistently had laypeople serving as liaisons with CG's staff and board, and we make an annual contribution to its operating budget. Even so, Culpepper Garden continues to be in need of our attention and assistance.

Monday night, we have another opportunity to contribute financially and network to show our support, as CG honors UUCA's own Sharon Sundial.

Our 2011 Elder Services Awards Ceremony will be taking place on Monday evening, November 14th from 7-9 p.m. at the Signature Theatre located at 4200 Campbell Ave., Arlington, VA 22203. We are delighted that Doreen Gentzler, News4 Anchor, has agreed to be our guest emcee and Patrick Hope, Virginia House of Delegates, will be our guest speaker.

This year's recipients of the Elder Services Awards are: Sharon Sundial, Neal Nichols (Red Top Cab) and the Senior Health Department of Virginia Hospital Center. Our reciprients have done a tremendous amount of work for the well being of seniors in Arlington and are well deserving of their respective awards.

I was at the Signature for this event last year along with many UUCAers. It was a very pleasant evening that showed the spirit of Culpepper Garden and the congregation that got it going. Hope to see you there, indeed!
