Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA
A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948
Dear UUCA,
I love you! You have given me what I was looking for when I first walked through your doors: a framework and context for my spirit. But that’s not all. You also give me what I didn’t even know I was looking for: beloved community. My heart beats more calmly whenever I walk through your doors or connect with another member.
I love you for what you have taught me—through sermons, through covenant groups and classes, through leadership opportunities. Even when I felt hurt, when I was angry with you, you kept on courting me back with events and opportunities, and offering me love in return. I love you for helping me to “learn to love those I find” at the church instead of just looking to find those I already love. You have taught me a whole new approach to community.
I love you for your boldness—especially now at the threshold of our future with new ministerial leadership, big changes in our building, newly focused social-justice efforts, our vibrant ethical visibility in Northern Virginia.
Most of all, beloved community of UUCA, I love you for how you make me feel: honored for my abilities and contributions, challenged but supported throughout my frailties. May our connection be long and joyous.
Love,
Diane

Comment by Bill Fogarty on February 11, 2012 at 1:43pm HERE IS MY LOVE LETTER TO UUCA -- AND THANKS TO DIANE FOR THIS CREATIVE CORRESPONDENCE!
Dear UUCA --- I love you for what you provide to me, with all my many needs. When I am in a contemplative mood, I get inspiration from the embracing meditation in services, from lighting a candle, and simply from being in covenant with others, being supported by others. And when I feel a need to express joy and connect with others, there are so many wonderful people with whom I can share my passions. I love being an Office Manager for the RE classes -- it is so great to walk through the doorways downstairs on a Sunday morning and to see, and be around, many happy faces. Thank you, UUCA, for providing a place for me to grow -- I love you.
