Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA

A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948

The Board of Directors of the Shirlington Employment and Education Center (SEEC) has selected UUCA as a recipient of the First Annual "Emily Dicicco Humanitarian Award" for its work in advocating for immigrant communities. This is something we can all celebrate, because our selection has largely to do with our hosting the First Annual Virginia Immigant Advocacy Summit last fall at very low cost to the sponsoring organizations. That would not have been possible without all the contributions, monetary and otherwise, that the members and friends of UUCA have made over the years. In the past, the SEEC Humanitarian Award has gone to other congregations with a strong social justice focus, namely Our Lady Queen of Peace and Trinity Episcopal Church.

I will accept the award on UUCA's behalf at SEEC's Annual Fundraising Reception, Sunday, May 22, from 4pm to 6pm at the home of former Delegate Al Eisenberg and Sharon Davis at 817 N. Irving Street in Arlington. I will take it as an opportunity to celebrate our focus this past year on immigration, and the extraordinary partnerships we have cultivated with many organizations, including the Guatemala Human Rights Commission, the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO) and the Dreamers Project, as well as with members of the Arlington County Board.  UUCAers are welcome to attend, and there will be opportunities to contribute to the SEEC's valuable support for working people.

Hope to see you there!
