A Common Meditation for UUCA

This weeks Common Meditation is a poem by Sarah Munson, a long-time member and poet in our congregation.

Can I be quiet enough to hear

machinery hum

in kitchen and basement?

 

Quiet enough to feel

the sun, emptying through glass,

A Common Meditation for Yom Kippur

Today is Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews, and a time for reconciliation and forgiveness.  These words from Isaiah, a prophet in the 8th century BCE Kingdom of Judah, are read in every synagogue on this day.  But their message is for all people in all times.

 

Is not this the fast that I choose:

To loose the bonds of injustice,

to undo the thongs of the yoke,
