Conversations About Our Future
This is an exciting time at UUCA, a time for everyone to participate in shaping our future as a congregation. One way we can do that is by taking part in congregational conversations (Sundays after both services, 10/2 through 10/16) and by voting at the congregational meeting (1:30 on 10/23).

This is a reading from our hymnal in recognition of the Jewish High Holy Days, which began on September 29-30 and ends with Yom Kippur at October 8.
"O Source of peace, lead us to peace, a peace profound and true;
lead us to a healing, to mastery of all that drives us to war within ourselves and with others.
May our deeds inscribe us in the Book of life and blessing, righteousness and peace!
O Source of peace, bless us with peace.

TS Eliot for Joan Holm
“To arrive where you are, to get from where you are not,
You must go by a way wherein there is no ecstasy.
In order to arrive at what you do not know
You must go by a way which is the way of ignorance.
In order to possess what you do not possess
You must go by the way of dispossession.
In order to arrive at what you are not
You must go through the way in which you are not.
And what you do not know is the only thing you know
And what you own is…

Does anybody know of UUCA'ers who have taken a study tour to the Mideast? We've interest in seeing interconnect between the Bible, archeological, and scientific findings.

Labor Day Protest at Colombian Embassy
I wish I could upload my camera phone pictures from the Protest this morning at the Colombian Embassy in D.C., but I lack a cord needed to connect my phone to my laptop.
Although there were only 2 weeks to organize this event, I feel that my small efforts have resulted in raising the issue among a wide swath of people. Especially today, in just traveling with my small handmade sign to the embassy, so many people asked what it was about, this "Non Mas Matar en Colombia". From people in…

Moving Out of Reeb Hall
The last several weeks, as summer turns to fall in 2011, there have been trucks and vans at Reeb Hall, UUCA's original church building. The offices of Habitat for Humanity, which have been in Reeb for the past decade, are being moved to the Arlington Methodist Church on Glebe Road. Artists who have rented low-cost studio space from UUCA in Reeb have emptied their rooms. Furniture that has been left in good condition is being donated to Habitat's Re-Store, which helps fund Habitat projects…

I would like to see us our web site used more for our religious explorations, so today I am beginning a weekly blog called "A Common Meditation." Each blog will consist of a poem or reading that I hope will be meaningful for your life. I invite you to follow the spiritual practice below so you may deepen your experience. I will provide a link to the readings since the sites I use -- such as today's site, "The Writer's Almanac" -- have poems that are published with the author's permission…
