Reflections from a New Grandmother

On Saturday, January 21, Ada Lee Peebles was born - my very first grandchild!  She's the beautiful daughter of my son Byron and his wife Elisabeth (Beth).  I was present at the birth, which happened in the comfort of their home, with the skilled and loving guidance of a midwife from Birthcare…

A Power So Great

I am always thankful to join in Martin Luther King Day celebrations.  The interfaith service at UUCA lifted my heart and soul—but later on, I felt deeply troubled.

I want to voice my doubts, along with my gratitude and joy.  A few others may share these emotions but feel as I wrongly did, profoundly alone.

Crisis for VA Families

Jan 22, 2012 - 39 years since the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision - I will be speaking on the faith issue for us as we deal with the reality that hard-won and long-accepted support for education, healthcare, and families services is being devastated for Virginians by Gov. McDonnell's administration.

My Mom's Passing & Rev. Carlton's Pastoral Care

My mom Ilse M. Williams passed away after a 7-month illness at Woodbine Rehabilitation Facility in Alexandria on Monday, January 9th at 11:09 am. Two birthdays fell on Monday, January 9th.  My brother's step-daughter Megan turned 15 years old.  My mom's brother Heinz Richnovsky turned 76 years old.  I will be processing my mom's passing probably for the rest of my life.  This has been a big transition for me and my brother.  We loved our mom a great deal. There were lots of good times with…

On Replacing Michael

I believe that we are poorly served by Rev. Jonassonon’s guidance in replacing Michael (Arlingtarian, January 2012).  It would be detrimental to the vitality and growth of our congregation if we followed his advice –as apparently there are not any UU denominational rules of ministerial succession to which we are bound.

I greatly appreciate Michael McGee’s tenure and leadership among us.  Indeed in my 36 years of UUCA membership I do not believe that the UUCA has ever been…
