A Common Meditation for January

Here's one of my favorite poets and a powerful poem for meditation: At the Cancer ClinicA COMMON MEDITATION The purpose: to develop a spiritual practice that helps center each person in the mystery and wonder, while making deeper connections of empathy and compassion with the wider world. The practice: sit comfortably in a quiet place with no distractions, take a few deep breaths to release tension…See More

Michael, your suggestion to ask politicians how they see the Golden Rule apply in their vision of the future.  Maybe this can be a question posed to them during debates.  Any way to petition the moderators when they ask for input from the…

Happy New Year!

A Glorious Celebration!

What a glorious celebration on Sunday morning as the voices of our children and youth choirs and our Clerestory Choir, as well as the seasonal music of the bell choir, violins, piano, organ, and keyboard, filled our sanctuary.  My gratitude to all who gave us the gift of your music.  And I'm looking forward to more music on Christmas Eve.  I'm reminded of the words of George Eliot: "I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength…See More

Pulpit exchange with Rev. Scott Alexander

This Sunday I'm exchanging pulpits with my good friend Rev. Scott Alexander. Usually pulpit exchanges are local, but we're doing a long distance swap with Scott coming from Vero Beach, Florida, and me replacing him there (I'm not getting hardship pay). Scott and I have been friends since we attended Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, California, and we got to know each other better when he was the senior minister at the River Road UU Church for 14 years before moving to Vero…
