Profile Information

How long have you attended UUCAVA?
I am the Ministerial Intern at UUCA this year and will be here from July 2010 until the end of March 2011.
What does multiculturalism mean to you?
For me multiculturalism means that we live with all our stories, our full lives, in our community of comfort and hope.
What religion or spiritual practices did you grow up with?
My family and community were surrounded by the African-American religious tradition as it is expressed in the non-denominational Baptist Church and in the Pentecostal tradition.
Tell us a little about yourself/your family/your interests:
I graduated this year from Wesley Theological Seminary.
I have been a professional UU religious educator for 12 years. I am a member of the UUA Journey Towards Wholeness Committee. And am President-Elect of the Liberal Religious Educator's Association. I have been a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville (UUCR)for 28 years. My 2 young adult children grew up at UUCR and my husband is very active in worship and social justice programs at the UUCR.
Why are you a Unitarian Universalist?
I believe in Unitarian Universalism's theological vision.
Like our chalice, our faith is a cup that holds our diverse community together in love and compassion - and it is powered by the flame of our commitment to a vision of the possibility of a world built by reason, for justice and inspired by love.

Immigration Common Read

As I have listened in on the many Renewal Conversations that have taken place at UUCA during this Capital Campaign period, one area of deep congregational interest - and a source of earned pride - is a commitment to social justice.

This year UUCA has joined with other congregations in our movement to explore the very complex issues surrounding our national immigration policy, especially as it relates to US immigration policies toward Mexico, Central America.

One way to try to…

A Local Fundraiser for Japan Relief

I know that many of us very worried about the situation in Japan.

The Japanese people have suffered so much - Earthquake, Tsunami, and ongoing anxiety as the condition of nuclear power plants in Japan continues to unfold.

The UUA has a Japan Relief Fund and you can connect to it through our UUCA website. Because the graduate students at GW University noticed that we had a Japan Relief Fund on our website,

I also received an email notice of a local Japan Relief…
