- What does multiculturalism mean to you?
- Diversity means inclusiveness and tolerance, regardless of color, age, creed, religion, race/ethnicity, and other facets of multiculturalism. It means giving people room to make mistakes and forgiving easily when interpretations run amok. It also means being open to new ways of thinking and different traditions and cultures.
- What religion or spiritual practices did you grow up with?
- None
- Tell us a little about yourself/your family/your interests:
- We are seeking a church that welcomes Asian families and doesn't put enormous pressure on families to conform to a certain way of life or certain beliefs.
I was born in Taiwan to parents from mainland China. My husband Lon was born in Washington, D.C., to parents also from mainland China. My son Zachary and my daughter Zan were born in China to ethnic Koreans. Lon and I adopted them in the summer of 2000 when they were 3 1/2 and 2 years old, respectively.
- Why are you a Unitarian Universalist?
- My Web research and chats with friends indicate that the Unitarian Universalist Church promotes inclusiveness and does not look down upon those who did not grow up without religion and does not look down upon those who grew up in a different religion.
