Thank you, June. Robert Reich said it all - our democracy has been taken over by big money. I'm extremely grateful to the OWSTers - they have brought the issue to the center of public debate, where it should be. I just hope that the Democrats…

Whatever we decide to build, we must be aware of the justice (or injustice) in the rate workers engaged in the construction are paid, I would hope that in our call for bids, we state that only prevailing wage bids will be accepted.

Labor Day Protest at Colombian Embassy

I wish I could upload my camera phone pictures from the Protest this morning at the Colombian Embassy in D.C., but I lack a cord needed to connect my phone to my laptop.Although there were only 2 weeks to organize this event, I feel that my small efforts have resulted in raising the issue among a wide swath of people. Especially today, in just traveling with my small handmade sign to the embassy, so many people asked what it was about, this "Non Mas Matar en Colombia". From people in the Metro…See More

Profile Information

How long have you attended UUCAVA?
6 years
What does multiculturalism mean to you?
I think it can mean that you're aware of others in your midst, and that you feel interested in knowing them and act on that.
What religion or spiritual practices did you grow up with?
My parents were lapsed catholics that didn't ever go to church, but were embued with Catholic values.
Tell us a little about yourself/your family/your interests:
I'm an activist, with deep concern about our democracy, which appears to have been hijacked by corporations and big business.
And I'm very proud of the NoVA LUUP effort that has really started to go somewhere. I'm looking forward to the 2010 session of the Virginia Legislature, which I think will have more UUs than ever!
Why are you a Unitarian Universalist?
Because it offers, encourages intellectual pursuit of the greatest answers human beings have ever sought. We do this today in the context of science: physics, astronomy, biology, chemistry, in combination with religious traditions.

It Breaks My Heart

(From the United Farm Workers today Oct. 27) This article explains why knowing where your food comes from and how everyone in the process from field to slaughterhouse to packing plant to transportation to your point of purchase is treated is essential. Below is a bit of background on how 1,000s of mostly brown people who don't speak English are kept like animals so corporate agricultural interests can deliver a handsome dividend to their shareholders, and so average Americans can eat well…

Would you be available to help hand out web site credentials on Sept 13 and to demonstrate the new web site some of the following Sundays? See the blog post "Sept 13 Launch: Volunteers Needed" - There is a link there to a sign-up spreadsheet. I would appreciate it if you would consider helping in this part of the launch effort.
