Profile Information

How long have you attended UUCAVA?
I was Associate Minister, later Team Minister, from December, 1989 through June 30, 2003
What religion or spiritual practices did you grow up with?
Judaism Lite!
Tell us a little about yourself/your family/your interests:
M.Div, magna c** laude (1981) - The Theological School at Drew University, Madison, NJ; Ordained into UUA ministry, 1982. Served churches in Kingston, NY and Wichita, KS. Settled at UUCA, Dec., 1989; Retired from active ministry June, 2003. Abe and I married in Jan., 1958, have two married daughters - Eve (Bob) and Martha Craig), and 3 grandchildren, Samantha (17), Matthew (15), Benny (13). We now live in a great (big, sprawling)) house in Raleigh, NC, close to Eve, Bob, and Sam. Martha, Craig, Matthew and Benny are in Massachusetts. Martha's a practicing psychologist and Craig is an Assoc. Dean at Mt. Holyoke College. Eve and Bob both work for IBM. Sam is in her Senior year at Raleigh Charter H.S. and will probably go to UNC-Chapel Hill. Matthew is a music prodigy who plays violin and is a composer. He's at Walnut Hill H.S. for gifted children in the arts, in Natick, MA. Benny's still in Middle School and excells in school work, sports, and drums. Abe and I have been travelling, gardening, (Abe still consults in the Chemical Industry), trying to get used to being "Elders", and we've become active and involved in The UU Peace Fellowship in Raleigh (about 45 members!). We have two cats - Jean Luc and Troi - who were born in a window-well at our house in Falls Church, VA in 1999.Lots of you have visited us in North Raleigh - Rev. Michael and Terry, Bill Peters, Sharon Sundial and Dave Peacefull, Terry Lang, Kathy Braeman, Carol and Bob Hopper, and Sheila and Chuck Ellis. We always welcome dear old UUCA friends! Y'all come!

HI Rev. Joan,

Where is the new UUPF building going to be? Being able to walk to church, or run home, would be a luxury I might be able to plan for.

Joan, It was so good to hear from you. I'm glad my picture with guitar sparked your interest. I've been doing some song writing and the day that picture (at the 2008 Fall Retreat) I had just finished writing a song called "Falling in and Out of Grace." I've also written a song called "Shower Zen" and another called "The Lottery." I'm working on another one right now but I've stalled out a bit. You and Abe are still greatly missed.

We went to a great production at Lisner last Sunday night of Concert Opera version of Gpunod's Faust with Bill Peters and his lawyer buddy Laurie Miller. It was fun. We both miss you (and Abe). We were glad to see that your NC B&B offering sold well at the auction. I shouted out that you have a great spot.
Cheers Bob (and Carol)

Glad you like it. I think it would be easy to do for other congregations after this first one.

So what is the new location? (I have been house hunting in North Raleigh and Wake Forest....)

HI Joan - I am interested in the UU Peace Fellowship. I looked online once and it said there were 40 members and meets in an old historic building on Durant Road. Have I got that right? So how does 40 feel in contrast to 1000?
