- What does multiculturalism mean to you?
- Multiculturalism means treating people from other cultures as individuals with inherent worth and dignity and feelings like mine. It also means seeing my own background - white middle class - as an ethnic identity on a par with other ethnic identities, with its own preferences, values, tastes, and expectations, and not seeing it as necessarily the norm by which to judge others. It also means being aware that identity is valuable to me and can be a source of connection to a community.
- What religion or spiritual practices did you grow up with?
- My father was Unitarian Universalist in spirit but no one pointed that out to him, because UU's were unknown to us.
