Welcome to Share the Click, an exciting extension of UUCA's Share the Plate giving program and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to funding endeavors of justice and compassion in our neighboring communities, across the nation and around the globe.
The Share the Plate program contributes half of UUCA’s offering receipts to causes that reflect Unitarian Universalist values as expressed in our Seven Principles. We have raised tens of thousands of dollars for programs to benefit food assistance centers in Arlington and Alexandria, scholarship projects for immigrant students and faith-based community organizing in Northern Virginia, after-school mentoring in D.C., recovery efforts in New Orleans, and a school for girls in rural India, among others.
However, not every person who would want to give to these causes makes it to a Sunday morning service in our "congregation of congregations". We have members, friends and partners near and far who might never set foot in our building, but wish to be part of the work of the congregation and its Share the Plate recipients.
With Share the Click, we are making generous giving possible regardless of when you want to give or where in the world you are. By clicking on the "Share the Click" link below, you will be able to make a one-time donation that will either be split evenly between UUCA and the Share the Click recipients for the month, or go totally to the Share the Click recipients.
Share the Click for August 2012
August Share the Click recipients are Equality Virginia and Metro DC PFLAG - Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays.
Based in Richmond, Equality Virginia is on the frontlines of advocacy for all residents of the Commonwealth, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. It partners with allies in the state legislature, galvanizing diverse progressive delegates and senators while coordinating grassroots lobbyists. EV successfully campaigned for the partner registry for hospital visitation and against several anti-gay bills. It is currently working to restore the public-employment nondiscrimination protections that were briefly in place under Governor Kaine.
Metro DC-PFLAG promotes the quality and well-being of LGBT people and their families and friends through support, education and advocacy. It offers 16 monthly support groups in the national capital area, including two that meet at UUCA. It works to provide safe, confidential environments of encouragement and community for youth and adults alike. The commitment of the organization is made visible during the annual Capital Pride Parade, as parents, families and friends show their support for their LGBT loved ones. Funds raised through Share the Click will go to maintaining the Metro DC PFLAG office and one part-time staff person.
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) began providing for full inclusion and affirmation of lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender people as early as the 1970s. As a member of the UUA, UUCA met the criteria to become a Welcoming Congregation in 1992.
