Journey Toward Wholeness is the name for the Unitarian Universalist Association’s initiative to develop anti-racist, anti-oppression, and multicultural ways of being in the world so that we can truly live by our UU principles. The Journey Toward Wholeness (JTW) Transformation Team at UUCA is charged with aiding our church to become a more inclusive, anti-racist institution. By transforming ourselves and building alliances with others we can become a major force for justice in our community and in the world. What is the focus of the JTW Transformation Team?An important step on the journey is for us to take a close look at our programs and policies. How can each group within the church further the cause of justice? How can each committee examine its work, plans, and dreams through an anti-racist, anti-oppression lens? The team serves as a catalyst to ministers and lay leaders working in five areas: worship, religious education, music and arts, community building, and administration. Each ministry examines programs, activities, and practices to determine how they can become more inclusive and anti-racist. The team helps the ministries to assess progress along the way towards realizing these goals. BackgroundThe JTW Transformation Team, which formed in 2006, is continuing the work of the Anti-racism Transformation Team begun in 2001 and the Task Force on Racial Diversity started in 1993. Both of these groups organized many educational programs, including forums, book discussions, films, and potluck dinner programs. JTW Co-Chairs |
