September 8 Meeting
Dr. Johnston will outline the progress being made by governments and commercial companies, like Space X, in planning missions to Mars and developing the technologies and infrastructure needed to go there. She will explain why we explore, what the future has in store for our grandchildren, and why we should care. If you enjoyed the close up images of Pluto as the New Horizons spacecraft flew past our furthest (dwarf) planet, you'll enjoy her images from space and the new perspectives she offers. Shaida Johnston is a scientist, engineer, and educator who holds a PhD in space policy. She is a former NASA space systems engineer who has 28 years of experience designing, building, testing and operating space systems.
