Dance

Led by Dance Director Sandra Kammann, the dance program offers classes in modern dance technique for adults, teens, and children. The Arlington Unitarian Dancers is a modern dance company committed to offering dances in a spiritual setting, and performs for the congregation as part of the church service 6 - 8 times a year. Drawing on her experience leading sacred ceremony, Sandra Kammann also leads monthly gatherings based on the ancient Buddhist prayer "The Twenty One Praises of Tara."

Dance Classes

Utilizing the natural physics of the human body, dance classes begin with breath and release work, followed by technical training for articulation and clarity of movement. Dancers develop knowledge of momentum, rhythm, form and stillness. Intermediate students explore choreographic interpretation and performance skills as well. Intermediate modern classes for adults and teens are ongoing every Wednesday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. taught by Sandra Kammann. Drop-ins welcome. Additional classes for children and youth are offered as well. For information, contact Sandra Kammann at 301-562-7769.

Circle Dance-Folk Dance

Come and discover the joy of movement and music on your spiritual journey; sacred circle dance unites traditional folk dance with modern choreography. From the rhythms of the Balkans to the songs of medieval Spain, participants dance to celebrate life and explore the dance as a form of meditation. This is an ongoing group and new dancers are welcome to join at any time. Partners are not necessary and all levels of dance experience are welcome. Classes meet each Thursday, 7:45 - 9:45 p.m. Fees: $10 per class drop-in fee. For fees per session and registration information, contact Adult Ed at reasst@uucava.org or Judie David at vedavid@starpower.net.

UUCA Dancers

Dancers are invited by the Artistic Director, Sandra Kammann, to join the company. Others are invited to perform in an expanded company during special event services. Additional opportunities may become available to train as dance leaders in the church's Religious Education program for children.

Dances of Universal Peace

Meets Second Saturday, 7 to 9 p.m. Sept.-May. Universal Peace Flyer

There are many ways to get involved!

The Dance Committee helps to guide, support, and promote the dance program. Volunteers are also needed to help sew costumes, maintain bulletin boards, provide musical accompaniment, videotape dances, and publicize the program. Contact Sandra Kammann, Sacred Dance Director.
