Below is a Action Alert  to use on Sunday to mobilize  members of all VOICE congregations to press the VA Senate/House Budget Conferees to protect the dental care safety net in the FY 2011-2013 VA budget. It is imperative that each congregation identify as many leaders as possible to make these calls.  Please report back on how many leaders you were able to secure call commitments from.  This is an essential follow-up to VOICE’s strong March 2nd action in Richmond.  See two excellent media pieces on the action/issue for more details:

ACTION ALERT 

VOICE
PROTECT AND RESTORE DENTAL CARE SAFETY NET 
FOR LOW INCOME CHILDREN & ADULTS IN VIRGINIA

BACKGROUND:         VOICE TOOK 200 LEADERS TO RICHMOND ON MARCH 2nd TO PRESS VA SENATE/HOUSE BUDGET CONFEREES TO PROTECT AND RESTORE PROPOSED CUTS TO DENTAL SERVICES TO LOW-INCOME CHILDREN AND ADULTS.   THE BUDGET PASSED BY THE VA SENATE LAST WEEK PROTECTS DENTAL SERVICES.  THE HOUSE BUDGET CUTS THESE SERVICES DRASTICALLY AT FREE CLINICS, COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS, AND THROUGH THE VIRGINIA HEALTH FOUNDATION AND VIRGINIA’S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM FOR LOW-INCOME CHILDREN AND PREGNANT MOTHERS.  SENATE & HOUSE BUDGET CONFEREES MUST NOW PRODUCE A COMPROMISE BUDGET.  FOUR (4) OF SIX (6) SENATE BUDGET CONFEREES—ALL FROM NORTHERN VIRGINIA (Sens. Howell, Saslaw, Houck, & Colgan)--PLEDGED TO VOICE TO PROTECT DENTAL SERVICES.  VOICE MUST NOW CONTACT HOUSE CONFEREES AND THE REMAINING SENATE CONFEREES TO DO THE SAME.

ACTION NEEDED:      AT LEAST 50-100 PHONE CALLS PER CONGREGATION TO VA HOUSE & SENATE BUDGET CONFEREES (See List Below)

WHAT TO SAY         GOOD MORNING, I AM      YOUR NAME    FROM   YOUR COUNTY.  I AM A MEMBER OF VOICE—Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement— AND  THE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH OF ARLINGTON.   VOICE REPRESENTS 150,000 PEOPLE IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA FROM 47 RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS.  BECAUSE OF 
DELEGATE'S NAME'S ROLE AS AHOUSE/SENATE BUDGET CONFEREE, I AM CALLING TODAY TO URGEHIM/HER TO FOLLOW THE LEAD OF THE VIRGINIA SENATE AND TO ADOPT THE SENATE’S BI-PARTISAN BUDGET THAT PROTECTS DENTAL CARE FOR LOW INCOME CHILDREN AND ADULTS.  THERE SHOULD BE NO CUTS TO FREE CLINICS, COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS, THE VIRGINIA HEALTH FOUNDATION AND VIRGINIA’S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM FOR LOW-INCOME CHILDREN AND PREGNANT MOTHERS.  THANK YOU.
