Facilitator(s) Needed for Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees needs one or more facilitators to assist with this year’s
Board retreat and discussions. Two major meetings requiring a facilitator are:
1) Retreat. The Board retreat is scheduled for approximately 4 hours on the
evening of June 18 or the morning and early afternoon of Saturday, June
19 (depending on the availability of the facilitator). The retreat will focus
on the following: trust/teambuilding amongst the new Board,
communication within the Board and between the Board and staff and the
Board and the congregation (including the development of the Board
covenant and discussion of personal communication styles and
preferences and tools for crafting effective conversations within meetings)
2) Discussion of Policies, Regulations, Structure, Function: The board is
reviewing its manual which contains Board regulations as well as directives
(known as executive limitations and policies) as it pertains to staff, the
congregation and the church’s functioning. This will be a discussion of
values, priorities and the structure and functioning of the congregation
with the primary goal of developing an outline for revising the executive
limitations, identifying whether or not new policies need to be created and
informing a Board task force that is working with staff on this matter. The
3-4 hour discussion will occur in September and/or October.
Both discussions are meetings held in Executive Session (a confidential
discussion amongst Trustees only).
The facilitator does not need to be the same for both discussions but the
facilitator(s) will need to be keep the discussions in confidence and need to be
willing to have a discussion with the chair for next year (Natty Averett) and
possibly one or two other members of the Board to become informed about
policy governance, particularly as it relates to UUCA and to develop the format
for these meetings. The estimated time commitment is approximately 15 hours
each for the retreat and the other discussion mentioned above, which includes
preparations and the time spent meeting with the Board in Executive Session.
Please contact Natalia (Natty) Averett at 703-868-8189, or
nataliaaverett(at)aol.com, if you are interested or would like more information.
