Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA
A diverse, welcoming community of open hearts and minds since 1948
Returned Peace Corps volunteers from UUCA are having a big House Party at the church on Tuesday night. The Peace Corps is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011. To honor the five decades of service, communities around the world are hosting a series of Global House Parties on March 1, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Peace Corps by President John F. Kennedy.
The National Peace Corp Association (NPCA) is inviting educators to join in the celebration by integrating the House Party theme of food security in their classrooms. They provide a kit that provides background on the food security theme, teaching suggestions for different grade levels and action steps to maximize Peace Corp volunteers impact in making the world more food secure for all.
I'm wondering if UUCA returned Peace Corp volunteers, and members of the Ethical Eating (sustainable eating) Learning Community, would be interested in partnering, and considering and identifying ways UUCA could expand its work on food security issues? Also, if any RE teachers would be interested in the curriculum and resources available for their classes? What do you think? If there are a few people interested, lets explore the possibilities. -- I've attached the NPCA's "Peace through Food Security Educational Kit" for your consideration.
