Does eating local really make a difference; Can U.S. Farm Policy promote sustainable agriculture; and what's the connection to immigration reform and environmental justice?
Find out Saturday, April 2... Our Food, Our Farms, Our Future: Creating A New Paradigm. U.S. Farm policy has world-wide implications and it's up for reautherization in 2012. What can WE do about it? It's all connected. Join in on the discussion with four area advocates and:
--Learn how eating local helps save the Bay from Brian Kane, member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Buy Fresh, Buy Local* Steering Committee.
--Hear what changes in U.S. farm policy can promote sustainable agriculture from Susan Prolman, Executive Director, National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition*.
--Discover ties between immigration reform and food and environmental justice from Lisa Johnson-Firth, an immigration lawyer, and Edgar Aranda-Yanoc, Chair, Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO).
There will be plenty of time for questions, for sharing your vision of sustainable eating and farming, and for planning action steps. The program is sponsored by the Ethical Eating Learning Group and the Sustainable Eating Task Force of UUCA Green Action and the Committee on Immigration Reform of the Fairfax UU Congregation. Supported in part by a UU's for Social Justice (UUSJ) Collaborative Grant.
Registration and refreshments at 9 a.m.the program begins at 9:30 and ends at noon. Contact: Lavona Grow at socialjustice@uucava.org with questions.

Do you happen to know how many people came to this meeting? I recall it was about 40 or so... I thought it was a very good discussion, and I hope we can tap into the energy created here and with the two Menu for the Future groups to develop some good programs in this area.
